The Neurodivergent Nexus is a neuroaffirming community built for neurodivergent individuals, their families, and the people who support them. These guidelines exist to keep this space safe, respectful, and empowering for everyone. By participating in our community, you agree to follow these principles.
Everyone here is navigating something hard.
This community exists because neurodivergent people and their families deserve a space where their experiences are met with compassion, not judgment. Before responding to a post, consider what the person might be going through. A little gentleness goes a long way.
No one's experience is more valid than another's.
ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, sensory processing differences, Tourette's, OCD, giftedness, twice-exceptional identities, and every intersection in between: all belong here equally. We do not rank, compare, or gatekeep neurodivergent experiences.
What's shared here stays here.
Many members share deeply personal stories about their diagnosis journeys, family struggles, and daily challenges. Never screenshot, quote, or share someone's post outside this community without their explicit permission. Protect each other the way you'd want to be protected.
Share experiences, not prescriptions.
Unless someone explicitly asks for advice, lead with your own experience instead. Say "what worked for me was..." rather than "you should try..." Never recommend specific medications, supplements, or therapies as though they are universal solutions. What works for one brain may not work for another.
Recognize the unpaid labor of community care.
Stars exist to honor the work we do for each other that often goes unrecognized: the late-night advice, the carefully compiled resource lists, the emotional support when someone is overwhelmed. When a community member writes a thoughtful response, shares a hard-won insight, or stays up late helping you through a tough moment, that labor deserves recognition. A star says "I see what you did, and it mattered."
Protect each other's bandwidth.
When discussing topics that may be emotionally heavy, like trauma, abuse, suicidal ideation, self-harm, restraint, or institutional harm, please add a content warning (CW) at the top of your post. Not everyone has the bandwidth for heavy content at every moment, and a simple heads-up lets people choose when they engage.
No ableism, ABA promotion, or functioning labels.
This is a neuroaffirming space. We do not tolerate language or ideology that frames neurodivergence as something to be "fixed" or "cured." This includes promoting Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), using functioning labels ("high-functioning" / "low-functioning"), person-first language imposed on those who prefer identity-first, or any form of ableism. Violations result in immediate moderation action.
In communities like ours, some of the most valuable contributions are invisible: the parent who stays up until 2 AM writing a detailed breakdown of how they got their child's IEP approved, the autistic adult who patiently explains masking to someone just learning the word, the educator who compiles a resource list for a family in crisis. This is unpaid labor, and it deserves to be honored. Stars are our way of saying "I see the work you did, and it mattered." Give them freely and often.
Violations of these guidelines are handled by our moderation team with care and context. Depending on the severity of the violation, actions may include a private message, temporary mute, or permanent removal from the community. We believe in restorative approaches whenever possible, but the safety of our members always comes first.
To report a violation, use the flag icon on any post or message, or contact us directly at info@NDNexus.com.
